Southgate Area Guide
Southgate is very popular with families. There is a varied housing stock ranging from Georgian houses near Southgate Town Centre, to Georgian, Victorian cottages and Victorian houses. There is however a predominance of 1930s houses of all sizes. Southgate also has purpose built blocks of low rise flats and modern housing estates. Southgate station was designed and built in the 1930s by Charles Holden in an Art Deco style and it is one of Southgate’s landmarks. The journey from Southgate into the centre of London takes about thirty minutes. There are also good bus services covering local routes and into central London. The M25 is easily accessible.
Among the primary Schools in Southgate and surrounding areas are Osidge Primary and Brunswick Primary for younger children and Ashmore Academy and Southgate School in Cockfosters for older children. Palmers Green High School, an independent school for girls is situated in neighbouring Palmers Green.
